Let’s talk
What are Ego states or Parts?
Where your internal family of yourself exists
Reconciliation of conflicting parts for the whole of the individual
Parts or ego states are subpersonalities that represent distinct aspects of our inner world, each with its own thoughts, emotions, desires, and even memories. These parts can emerge in response to different situations, often shaped by past experiences, and may play out specific roles in our lives.
Common Triggers of Ego States
Think of the mind as a stage, where a cast of characters steps forward depending on the scene. One moment you’re the problem-solver; the next, the hesitant beginner, or the bold leader. These “ego states” are the subpersonalities that form our whole identity, each with its own role, shaped by life’s demands.
Over time, certain roles can become outdated. The childhood self who learned to stay small and quiet might still take the spotlight in adulthood, long after the original use for their role has passed. Its this script which allows the ego state to persist, fuelling anxiety, creating unbalanced relationships, and reinforcing patterns that hold you back.
These ego state roles have been divided into four distinct types:
Vaded Ego States
These are ego states that have experienced trauma and have not yet processed it. They are often emotionally reactive and can be triggered by situations that resemble or remind the person of the original trauma. Common triggers include reminders of past abuse, feelings of abandonment, authority figures, conflict, or any situation that evokes helplessness or fear. For example, someone who was neglected as a child may feel overwhelmed or panicked when ignored in a social setting.

Conflicted Ego States
These ego states are in opposition to one another, creating internal tension. Triggers often involve situations that require decision-making, especially when values or desires clash. Relationship stress, identity confusion, or moral dilemmas can activate these states. For instance, a person might feel torn between their desire for independence and their need for closeness in a romantic relationship.

Retro States
Retro states are ego states that were once useful but are now outdated or inappropriate in current contexts. They tend to emerge in familiar or stressful environments, especially when the person is fatigued or under pressure. Triggers can include returning to a childhood home, being in a role that mirrors past responsibilities, or experiencing nostalgia. A person who used to be the caretaker in their family might automatically take charge in group situations, even when it is not necessary.

Normal Ego States
These are healthy, adaptive parts of the self that function well and are not in conflict. They are typically triggered by safe, structured environments, positive feedback, and supportive relationships. Success, creativity, and clear expectations help these states thrive. For example, a confident and social ego state may emerge when someone is surrounded by friends who affirm their identity.

Reclaim Wholism Of Self
Why the parts need to be heard to integrate
Reshaping the personality of the internal self.
Bringing together the self, soul, and spirit into a unified experience of wholeness is at the heart of many healing pathways, and parts therapy offers a powerful method to achieve that integration.
The self is your conscious identity, the part of you that narrates your life and interacts with the world. The soul is your emotional essence, the depth of who you are. The spirit is your transcendent spark, the part that seeks meaning and connection beyond the material.
These three forces often feel fragmented, especially when life experiences, trauma, or internal conflict cause disconnection between them. That’s where parts therapy, becomes the communication bridge in creating the governance from the spiritual and soul self to repattern the states that are no longer functioning for the greater whole for the person.
I feel there's a part of me that always gets in the way of me achieving something, but I don't know why?
This process naturally supports the integration of self, soul, and spirit:
-
It helps the self become a compassionate leader within, capable of holding space for all internal voices without judgment.
-
It allows the soul to express its depth, its pain, its desires, its wisdom, without being suppressed or disowned.
-
It opens the door for the spirit to guide healing, offering insight, intuition, and a sense of sacred connection that transcends the fragmented parts.
In essence, parts therapy reconciles and restores the dialogue between your self, soul, and spirit, where each part of you is seen, heard, and valued.

Spirit. Soul. Self.

WHOLISM OF YOU
